What is Fiji best known for?

It’s no coincidence that Fiji is one of Aussies’ favourite destinations. With its fine sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters and sunny temperatures, the region has attracted many tourists searching for relaxation and breathtaking natural scenery. It is also a great destination for snorkelling and scuba diving.  

But Fiji has much more to offer! Its inhabitants are well known for their hospitality and for being genuinely welcoming. 

The food scene is also a great asset of Fiji islands, with famous dishes such as Yam, Taro, Kumala or Cassava. You’ll also find many pork, chicken, fish or lamb-based dishes. 

  Is Fiji expensive for tourists?

Fiji offers a wide range of prices regarding accommodation, food, transportation and activities. Overall, the islands are relatively affordable for Australians if the trip is carefully planned.  

On average, the travel cost for a week in Fiji for one person is $1,266 which includes accommodation, food, transportation and activities. 

However, you can save a lot of money by exchanging your Australian dollars to Fiji currency before you leave. That way, you can avoid high exchange rates once you're there.  

  How many days in Fiji is enough? 

The duration of your stay depends on various factors such as your budget, what you expect from your trip and the number of activities you’re planning to do.  

A 7-day trip to Fiji is a good starting point if you want to be able to relax and still enjoy some travel experiences during your holidays. On average, a week in Fiji is enough to explore one or two islands without rushing. You can extend your stay if you’re an adventure seeker and want to explore the island as much as possible. If you’re planning to visit more islands, you’ll have to consider the transit which is usually half a day.

  Is Fiji or Bali better?

Fiji and Bali are both popular destinations for Aussies. Therefore, it can be tricky to decide which one you want to travel to for your holiday. They both offer a huge variety of accommodations, fun activities and amazing food to try. There are several things which make both islands different.  

First of all, the culture and history of Bali and Fiji are quite different. Hinduism is an important aspect of Bali’s culture and there are many religious festivals and rituals to discover. Fiji is known for its tribal system, in which music and dancing play an important role. 

Beaches in Bali are great for water sports such as surfing. It is therefore a good destination for surfers of all levels. Fiji’s beaches are known to be more relaxed and a great place to relax. It is ideal for couples seeking a romantic setup or families searching to unwind for a few days. 

Fiji tends to be a little bit more expensive than Bali as it’s more focused on resorts and luxury travel. On the other hand, Bali offers a wide range of affordable accommodations and activities if you’re travelling on a budget. In both cases, planning a trip during the rainy seasons, from November through April, is a great way to get cheaper deals. 

Both destinations are very safe for tourists with low crime rates. Of course, you can still be the target of pickpockets as in any other country. Don’t forget to look after your belongings and to check your bags when walking in crowded areas. 

If both destinations are quite similar, we would recommend travelling to Fiji for a romantic gateaway or for your honeymoon, and to Bali if you’re an adventure seeker.
